Trip to Gettysburg
This past weekend, 19-20 April, we had our trip to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
Tents were pitched on Artillery Ridge campsite Friday night and the boys settled in for the evening (much!) later...
The boys packed along their bikes and helmets too, as they and our adults rode them 10 miles around the Gettysburg National Military Park on Saturday. That evening the boys had movie night and watched "Gettysburg". The next morning, the Troop packed up their gear and went to the visitor's center, stopping by the gift shop and museum before heading back home to Mount Holly.
Our thanks to all of the adults and scouts who made this trip a success.
Trip to South Park
In the first week of March, we travelled to South Park hunting lodge and spent the weekend.
The boys discussed duty, selfless service and responsibility and selected their troop leadership for the coming year.
The next day, we set up the firing line, heard (many) firearms safety briefs, donned hearing and eye protection and learned to fire the .22 rifle and shotgun. A Court of Honor was held Saturday night and several families of our scouts were in attendance for good times and good food...
... And Now A Few Words From Our Scoutmaster...
· First, on January 31st, the Troop had a Uniform Inspection, conducted multiple Scoutmaster Conferences, and multiple formal Boards of Review. In general, we need to improve our uniform standards. Shirts should fit properly and patches should be machine sewn on in the correct locations. I was very impressed with growing insight, maturity, caring, and thoughtfulness demonstrated to me and Mr. Crowley during the Scoutmaster Conferences. As a result of the formal Boards of Review, J. Costa, C. Grungo, and M. Giambalvo advanced in rank to Star Rank. Others were also awarded merit badges. Congratulations and Well Done!
· Second, on February 2nd, the Troop had a tremendous good time skiing at Blue Mountain Ski Resort. The $50 package for each Scout included equipment, lift ticket, and a lesson. The ski instructor was very popular! We stopped at an Italian restaurant on the way home. The Troop covered part of the ski package and pizza for the Scouts. Everyone did well on the slopes and there were no injuries. Thanks to Mr. Costa for serving as the Adult Leader Organizer, Joey Costa as Scout Organizer, and to the other Adult Leaders and parents that participated and assisted.
· Third, on February 7th, the Troop conducted BSA "Right Decisions Right Now" Training. The training focuses on development and application of ethics and good judgment in decision making. We had a good and poignant discussion. We only covered part of the material. We will continue this training over time. Thanks to Mr. Johnston for leading and facilitating the training.
Thanks, Pete
